Everything is Illuminated is a critically acclaimed novel by Jonathan Safran Foer. These book jackets were designed in a historically significant graphic design style called Late Modern. The novel is well suited to the Late Modern design style because of its often comical and playful tone, applied in situations that are quite serious.
The focus of this design is one of the prevailing themes in the book: memory. Each of the three cover designs is based on a moment in the book where this theme is prevalent.
All three covers use the Late Modern treatments of illustration, collage and simple typography. Colour scheme is limited but high contrast and the overall layout is simple yet playful.
